Kelp Fish - Threpterius chalceus


Dark brown above with bronze tints, lighter below. Head whitish with dark markings on snout and under the eye. A silver spot at the top of the gill cover. Grows to 20cm. Should not be confused with the Silver Spot (Threpterius Inacidosus), which grows to 32cm, or with the fish known as "kelpie" in Victoria (Seriolella bram), which is the Warehou or Sea Bream.


South Australia.



Found in rocky, weedy areas. Not generally fished for.
