DESCRIPTION

Brown with numerous dark spots and streaks, and dark vertical bar above pectoral base. Fins dusky. One of the largest of the 21 species of galaxies. The name being given because these fishes have numerous dots strewn across their bodies like the stars in the Milky Way.

DISTRIBUTION

Found in South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania.

Mountain Trouts

HABITS

Found in mountain streams and coastal rivers. The mountain trout is large enough to provide good sport to anglers using ultra-fine tackle.

TACKLE AND BAITS

Light trout rod, 1.5kg line, No. 12 hook baited with piece of worm or a black cricket. The best sport is to catch them on fly tackle with a tiny dry or wet fly.
